Why am I writing a Blog?

I have been thinking for some time about commencing a blog - but wondered 'why bother', as I have 4 websites and am moderator of a Forum where people can write in and ask for assistance and support.

I wrote a book titled 'How to Run a Business from your Kitchen Table' which has proven to be very successful and is in its second edition. Now I have decided to write a second book and would like to include stories from the Micro and Home Based Business Community, consequently I thought a blog may be a way to allow business operators that I do not know to actually make comments that I can include in the book.

Therefore, if you wish me to profile you in the second book with your real name and business, as I read your comments, I will ask through the blog for certain individuals to make direct contact with me so they can be featured. The real advantage to you is that, if profiled, they will get promotion via the book (over 11,000 of the first book has sold) and if they use this as leverage for their business, it can be a very powerful tool for their marketing.

My first step is to ask you "what you have done that is different in your business?"

Warm wishes
Barb

I'm interested in starting a new business. Will this new book help me in finding the right resources I can use?

I guess we all learn from everything we read - the content of this book will greatly depend on what other HBB are prepared to share with me and therefore to what degree it is likely to assist you start a new business. My book 'How to Run a Business From the Kitchen Table' will certainly help you. It is available on http://www.mbnsolutions.com.au/Product/1181167154562-9300/category/5/Publications

Congratulations in joining the blogosphere Barb! Good to see you've joined us. There are heaps of Aussie bloggers and I can send you some info about their communities if you're interested. And I'm sure you will draw in lots of interested people in what you are planning and doing.

All the best!

Kathie - I would love to have some info about the blogging community -what a shame I hate that word 'blog' I think it reminds me of a 'blob' achieving nothing, getting nowhere, wasting time - so I am now prepared to fall in love with the blog concept!

Hi Barb,
It took me six month of throwing up in my cereal every morning to make the decision, but I eventually threw in my high-powered, six figure job with its $45 million budgets and gut wrenching stress and started a women's only ‘kick butt' property investing network (http://www.affluencia.com) that's kicking goals for me and my motivated flock.

That's daring to be different! I'd like to know more about your next book project.

Thanks Wendy - yep, taking a risk and throwing in a top job certainly is stressful - but how do you feel about it now? Are you happy that you made that decision? What is more important now compared to then....money? flexibility? job satisfaction? being your own boss?...or something else...?

The new book will probably be titled 'Dare to be Different' and as people write to this blog, respond to my questions and expand on their initial comments....then my creative approach will come to the fore and I will begin to see just how to structure the book.....so it all depends on the stories I get and how much people will give of themselves, as to the precise path the book will follow.

One thing I can say for sure - one of the aims of the book is to promote these Micro/HBB operators who do dare to be different, and get them the recognition and reward that they deserve.

Another purpose is to give all those wanting to start a business or indeed to 'kick start' an existing one, the motivation and passion to do so, by the examples provided in the book.

So many thanks for beginning the discourse Wendy.

Hi Barb,

I would not change it for the world. Within 2 weeks of throwing in the stressful job, all my health complaints cleared up. Magic!

What is important now is doing what I love and am passionate about, educating and empowering others. I love it!

Hi Barb,
I have never "blogged" before but felt compelled as I would love to be included in your new book project
I have been running my own deportment and modelling school for the most part of 20 years and for the last 9 years combined it with teaching and providing services in interior design. I've also just been asked to take on the role of the Sunshine Coast coordinator of the Girl in a Million Quest and I do all this from home where I have an office and studio . I feel it has to be a unique type of combination, certainly different!(Quite incredible from a girl that started out as a jillaroo on my parents farm at 14 years.)

Ah......Serena...you have brought back memories! When I was 14 all I wanted to be was a Jillaroo! My Dad managed sheep properties in the New England district of NSW and my brother and I did our schooling by correspondence.

But my folk did not want that for me - so I ended up being a school teacher specialising in Art....then ran a business...and so it goes on.

Congratulations on all you have achieved...I am certainly interested in featuring you in my book. Do you have a web site?
Cheers
Barb

Thanks for your input Jodie-Anne. Thank you for coming to the session I ran. Your business certainly touches a spot in my heart, as I am an avid dog lover and am a dog judge and am training my little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel for some TV work.

I will be in touch.
